What is the point of a tankini? can someone answer this?

I am going on vacay on Saturday. I will not lie i am a little thick, got some extra curves I’ve acquired since college…nothing serious, just a lil chub…anyhoo the old bikini isn’t looking too fab these days. Thinking about sporting a tankini instead. But seriously, what’s the difference between wearing a tankini and a one piece? can someone explain that to me?
