Should the glycolic acid content of a product be too little, there may well not be any noticeable effects. However, too much of it can lead to skin damage. High concentrations of the substance are even used for rust removal and degreasing. Concentrations of 70% or more are extremely damaging. In fact, the government considers products with concentrations of more than 10% to be ‘hazardous’.
